Darren Campbell was born and raised in Charleston, SC. He grew up listening to traditional spirituals sung by family members in an old Holiness church that his great grandparents from Edisto Island, SC started. Darren began thinking about history since he was in the fourth grade. He recalls being excited when his teacher promised lessons in African history. However, anticipation turned into disappointment when the instructor never made it to Africa or Black history. Years later, he decided to do something about it. He created a character named “Simone” in children's books with which young readers could identify.
The Simone Project is a book and CD series narrated through the eyes of a 10-year-old African American girl named Simone. She takes the participants on numerous journeys through landmarks of history. This program is designed to provide a deeper understanding and appreciation of history, science, math, and more, through the Black heroes and heroines of the world.

As an author, lecturer and motivational speaker, Darren Campbell has been touching the hearts and minds of youth for over ten years. He hopes that the Simone Project will expand the education of students of all races and backgrounds and many will appreciate for the first time that Black history does not consist solely of slavery and struggle.
This program is sponsored in part by The Simone Club. Our mission is to bring historical events to life through the Arts. We are a non-profit 501 C3 organization. All sales and donations are tax deductible. For more info:
